Meet Tasmania's iconic marsupials
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Devils@Cradle is a world-class conservation and breeding facility for three of Tasmania's most threatened carnivorous marsupials: the Tasmanian devil, spotted-tail quoll, and eastern quoll. Located at 3950 Cradle Mountain Road, just 500 metres before the national park entrance, the sanctuary is open daily and offers guided keeper tours, feeding sessions, and joey encounters throughout the day.
The facility plays an active role in the conservation of the Tasmanian devil, a species threatened by the contagious devil facial tumour disease that has devastated wild populations across Tasmania. Visitors can observe the animals in naturalistic enclosures and learn about the breeding programmes underway to protect the species for future generations.
Tour options throughout the day include keeper tours, feeding tours, and joey encounters. Evening experiences including the After Dark Feeding Tour and seasonal sunset experiences offer a more atmospheric encounter as the nocturnal animals become active. General entry with a day keeper tour is competitively priced for families.
The sanctuary is operated independently of the national park, so no national parks pass is required. It is closed only on Christmas Day, with last general admission in the late afternoon.
