Enchanted Walk
Rainforest magic for all ages
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Enchanted Walk is a 1.6-kilometre circuit near the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre, threading through buttongrass moorland and into cool temperate rainforest along the banks of Pencil Pine Creek. Taking around 45 minutes and rated easy, it is one of the most accessible walks in the national park and a favourite for families, with the first half sealed and suitable for wheelchairs.
The walk begins just a short distance from the Interpretation Centre shuttle stop and quickly transitions from open moorland into towering old-growth rainforest, where pencil pines and myrtle-beech trees are draped in emerald moss. Three interpretive tunnels along the route add a playful element, and the sound of the creek accompanies walkers through much of the circuit.
Wombats, Bennett's wallabies and potoroos are commonly seen along the track, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon. The partly sealed surface makes it suitable for strollers and wheelchairs as far as the bridge, after which a short flight of steps continues the loop.
The walk is reached by shuttle bus from the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, where a national parks pass and shuttle ticket are required. The circuit can be combined with the nearby Rainforest Walk for a longer outing.
