Hogarth Falls and Peoples Park Walk
Easy rainforest walk in town
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Just a short stroll from Strahan's foreshore, Peoples Park is the gateway to one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks. A 2.4-kilometre return track follows Botanical Creek through tall eucalypt, leatherwood, sassafras and myrtle forest to Hogarth Falls, a 15-metre cascade best viewed from an observation deck above the pool.
The track is flat and well maintained with sections of non-slip boardwalk, making it suitable for most walkers. Interpretive signs created by local Strahan Primary School students explain the plants and forest environment along the way, giving the walk a distinctive community character. Platypus have been spotted in the creek below the falls, rewarding those who linger quietly near the water's edge.
Peoples Park itself has a grassed picnic area with free barbecues, covered shelter and public toilets. The park sits midway between the Strahan wharf and Regatta Point, meaning it is easy to combine the walk with a visit to the foreshore or the West Coast Wilderness Railway's Strahan station.
No entry fee applies and no bookings are required. The return walk takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes at a comfortable pace, making it the ideal morning or late-afternoon activity before dinner in town.
