Matso's Broome Brewery
Tropical craft beer in the Kimberley
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Occupying a heritage building that began life as the Union Bank of Australia in 1910, Matso's Broome Brewery is the northernmost craft brewery in Western Australia and one of the most distinctive in the country. The brewery is best known for its Ginger Beer and Mango Beer, both of which have become synonymous with the Kimberley, and it distributes across Australia while remaining proudly family owned.
The Matsumoto family once operated a general store from this building on Hamersley Street, and the brewery takes its name from that history. A full mash brewery producing 1,200-litre batches was installed in 2004, launching what had been a small cafe kitchen into a nationally recognised brewing operation.
The beer garden is one of the finest in regional Australia, shaded by mature trees with views toward Roebuck Bay. The food menu draws on Broome's multicultural heritage, particularly its deep Asian connections, and changes seasonally. Highlights include grilled barramundi and dishes that balance bold tropical flavours with the brewery's rotating tap list, which changes by season alongside the year-round Ginger and Mango Beers.
The venue regularly hosts live music, and throughout the dry season Sunday afternoon sessions bring DJs into the beer garden. The Staircase to the Moon is also visible from the property on select nights, making it a popular evening destination during those months.
