Arthurs Seat Eagle
Soaring views over the bay
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola glides over 300 metres above sea level, carrying visitors on a scenic journey between the Dromana base station and the summit of Arthurs Seat. On clear days the panorama stretches across Port Phillip Bay to the Melbourne skyline. The modern cabins are fully enclosed, wheelchair accessible, and run year-round.
Arthurs Seat is the highest coastal lookout point on the Mornington Peninsula, and the gondola is the most relaxed way to reach the top. Each cabin holds up to eight passengers and travels quietly through the treetops, offering an unobstructed view over the bay that is especially dramatic at sunset. Tickets can be purchased as one-way or return, and the ride pairs naturally with a visit to the hilltop cafe.
At the summit, visitors can stroll through Arthurs Seat State Park, explore walking trails through the forest, or browse the cafe's menu of light meals and coffee. The viewing platform is a popular spot for photographers and families alike, and the park's gardens are at their most colourful in spring.
The gondola is around a 60-minute drive from Melbourne via the Nepean Highway, making it an easy half-day or full-day outing. Online bookings are available and recommended during peak season and school holidays.
