Eli Creek
K'gari's sparkling lazy river
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Eli Creek is the largest freshwater stream on the eastern side of K'gari, pouring up to four million litres of crystal-clear water into the ocean every hour. The creek filters through layers of sand as it moves seaward, stripping out organic matter and leaving the water exceptionally clean. A wooden boardwalk follows the creek upstream and lets visitors walk in and float gently back to the beach.
The floating experience is the highlight for most visitors. Walkers follow the boardwalk upstream for several hundred metres, descend stairs into the shallow water, and let the gentle current carry them back down to 75 Mile Beach. The temperature of the water stays cool even in summer, making it a welcome stop on a long beach drive. A light inflatable tube adds to the fun, though the current is sufficient without one.
Facilities at the site include toilets and changing rooms. Eli Creek sits on 75 Mile Beach and is accessible by 4WD at low to mid-tide. Visitors should exit the water before it meets the ocean, as the open beach surf is subject to strong rips and the presence of sharks.
