Freycinet Marine Farm
Fresh oysters straight from the bay
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Freycinet Marine Farm is one of Tasmania's most celebrated seafood experiences, growing Pacific oysters and native oysters in the clear waters of the Freycinet Peninsula alongside Tasmanian blue mussels. Visitors can pull up to the waterfront sales room on Coles Bay Road and eat freshly shucked oysters with local Riesling while looking out over Great Oyster Bay.
The owners have run the farm since 2005, growing production from around 50,000 oysters annually to several million. The on-site kitchen serves oysters, mussels, scallops, rock lobster, sustainably caught scalefish, and the farm's signature scallop pie, with Tasmanian wine available by the glass. Both dine-in and takeaway options are available, with no entry fee to the sales room or dining area.
Farm tours are available through a local operator, offering water and land-based tours of the working lease with a shucking lesson, oysters with matched dressings, steamed mussels and a glass of Riesling. Booking is recommended for tours. The dining area is casual and family-friendly.
The farm is located on Coles Bay Road, roughly 2.5 hours northeast of Hobart. Opening hours vary seasonally, so visitors are advised to check ahead, particularly in the June to August winter period when hours are reduced.
