Gallo Dairyland
Cheese, chocolate and farm life
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Gallo Dairyland is a working dairy farm and artisan food producer set in the rolling green hills outside Atherton. Visitors can watch the cheesemaking process, sample hand-crafted chocolates made from Swiss couverture, meet the animals in the farm nursery, and sit down to a relaxed lunch in the air-conditioned cafe overlooking the property. It is one of the most popular food tourism stops on the Tablelands.
The farm produces a range of fresh and aged cheeses made on-site from local milk, and the viewing windows into the cheese factory let visitors watch the production process at close range. The chocolate workshop turns out hand-crafted truffles, bars, and confectionery, all available to taste and buy in the on-site retail shop.
The cafe serves meals from mid-morning and is renowned for its cheese platters, house-made desserts, and relaxed country atmosphere. Bookings are recommended, particularly on weekends, as tables fill quickly. The animal nursery is a hit with young children, with calves, lambs, and other farm animals to visit.
Gallo Dairyland is open Wednesday to Sunday. Entry to the farm and viewing areas is free, with purchases in the cafe and shop as the only cost. The property sits just outside Atherton on the Malanda Road and is easy to combine with a visit to Lake Eacham.
