Lake Moogerah
Still waters under volcanic peaks

Lake Moogerah is a large reservoir set beneath the dramatic volcanic plugs of Moogerah Peaks National Park, about 75 minutes south-west of Brisbane. The lake is a favourite for boating, water-skiing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing, with the jagged silhouettes of Mount Moon, Mount Edwards, and Mount French reflected in its calm surface. Public barbecue and picnic facilities at Haigh Park make it an easy day out for families.
The lake was created by the Moogerah Dam, a concrete arch structure completed in 1960. Visitors can walk across the dam wall for views across the reservoir and down into the Bremer River valley below. Multiple boat ramps around the shoreline cater to powered craft, while quieter coves suit kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.
Swimming is popular near Haigh Park on the northern shore, where a small beach, lawns, and a seasonal cafe provide a low-key base for a summer afternoon. The caravan park nearby offers camping for those who want to stay overnight and catch the glassy morning conditions.
The surrounding Moogerah Peaks National Park, which includes the Mount French section with its famous Frog Buttress rock-climbing wall, is directly accessible from the lake. The Boonah Visitor Information Centre, 20 minutes north, can provide maps and current conditions.
