The largest inland city in Queensland, perched 700 metres above sea level on the edge of the Great Dividing Range. Toowoomba is known for its 150 public parks and gardens, the annual Carnival of Flowers (September), and a growing street art scene.

Toowoomba sits on Jarowair country at the top of the Toowoomba Range, the steep escarpment that separates the coastal plain from the Darling Downs. The elevation gives it a cooler climate than Brisbane and real four season weather, which is why it earned the nickname 'Garden City' in the early 1900s.

The Carnival of Flowers, held every September since 1950, is the biggest event of the year. The city parks are planted out with 250,000 annuals for the festival, and dozens of private gardens open to the public. Queens Park, the Japanese Gardens at the University of Southern Queensland, and the Picnic Point lookout are worth visiting at any time of year.

The street art scene, built up through the annual First Coat festival, has produced some of the largest murals in Australia and now runs across the CBD. A 10 minute drive east of town, the Picnic Point lookout has one of the best escarpment views in Queensland, especially at dawn.
