Lerida Estate
Cool-climate cellar door on Lake George
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Lerida Estate sits at the foot of the Cullerin Range overlooking the enigmatic Lake George, just off the Federal Highway between Goulburn and Canberra. The boutique winery was established in 1998 and is housed in a building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt, whose signature approach of sitting lightly on the land suits the spare, windswept tablelands landscape perfectly. The cellar door and cafe are open seven days, offering award-winning cool-climate wines alongside a lunch menu that celebrates regional produce.
The estate produces a range of cool-climate varieties led by Pinot Noir, as well as Sparkling, Chardonnay, Shiraz and a Museum Collection of aged premium bottles dating back to 2015. Wine tastings are available at the cellar door, and the cafe - which includes both an indoor barrel room and a sheltered courtyard overlooking the lake - serves generous modern Australian lunches from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Live music is a regular feature on Sunday afternoons, and the grounds are dog-friendly.
Lerida Estate is consistently rated among the top cellar door experiences in the broader Canberra wine district, which extends north into the Southern Tablelands. The setting alone - with views stretching across the wide, shallow basin of Lake George and the wind turbines of the Cullerin Range beyond - makes the visit memorable even before the first glass is poured. A 15% surcharge applies to cafe purchases on public holidays.
