Gardens, wildlife and views
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Set on a ridge above Lake Baroon in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World offers a rare combination of manicured themed gardens, friendly farm animals, and a walk-through aviary filled with colourful Australian and exotic birds. The property at Wootha encompasses breathtaking views across the Glass House Mountains and Obi Obi Valley.
The gardens are divided into distinct zones including a fern gully, Japanese garden, conifer collection and a formal rose garden, connected by flat and accessible pathways suitable for most mobility levels. Farm Friends, including deer, alpacas, sheep and goats, can be hand-fed near the entry precinct, making it a natural hit with young children.
Bird World is a large walk-through aviary where guests can get close to rainbow lorikeets, cockatoos, macaws and a range of native Australian species. Guided aviary tours are included with the full admission ticket. The gardens are open year-round, closing only on Christmas Day.
