The Mount French section of Moogerah Peaks National Park rises above the Fassifern Valley 9 kilometres west of Boonah, offering one of south-east Queensland's best short walks for a big payoff. A well-formed circuit leads to Logan's Lookout and the North Cliff track, with sweeping views across farmland to the Scenic Rim escarpment. The area is famous among climbers for Frog Buttress, a towering basalt crag regarded as one of Australia's premier traditional rock-climbing destinations.
The car park at the end of Mount French Road has picnic tables, gas barbecues, toilets, and wheelchair access, a rarity for mountain day-use areas in Queensland. The lookout circuit is short enough for young children but dramatic enough to impress serious hikers, with open grassy ridgelines giving way to steep basalt cliffs on the northern face.
Frog Buttress draws climbers from across Australia and beyond. The rock offers hundreds of routes on solid columnar basalt, with grades ranging from beginner to expert. On weekends it is common to see roped parties working their way up the cliff face while day walkers look on from the rim above.
Mount French Road turns off the Boonah-Rathdowney Road just south of the Dugandan Hotel. The road becomes steep in the final kilometre to the car park; conventional vehicles and camper vans manage it comfortably.
