Ocean Beach
Surf, sand and sweeping views
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Ocean Beach is the closest ocean beach to the town of Denmark, sitting just five kilometres south along Ocean Beach Road where the Wilson Inlet meets the Southern Ocean. The beach is a favourite for surfers, families and walkers, with a well-known lookout above the channel offering sweeping views in both directions. Lifesavers patrol during the summer and school holiday season.
The beach faces south-west, picking up consistent Southern Ocean swell that makes it one of the better surf breaks on the south coast. Surf lessons and board hire are available during holidays and summer. The adjacent Wilson Inlet, a large coastal lagoon, provides calm water for kayaking and birdwatching in contrast to the open surf beach nearby.
Facilities include free parking in a large car park shared with the Sea Rescue and Surf Life Saving clubs, toilets, showers and picnic areas. A small seasonal kiosk operates in summer. The lookout above the channel is accessible from a second smaller car park and provides one of the most dramatic views of the Denmark coastline.
