Pirianda Garden
Hidden woodland of rare trees
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Pirianda Garden is a peaceful 11-hectare woodland retreat in Olinda managed by Parks Victoria, featuring an extensive collection of rare and ornamental trees set within a natural forest setting. The garden is particularly noted for its spectacular autumn foliage, rhododendrons, and azaleas, and offers free entry and a quiet escape from the busier attractions of the Dandenong Ranges.
Originally developed as a private estate, Pirianda was donated to the state and is now part of the Dandenong Ranges garden network administered by Parks Victoria. The collection includes Japanese maples, magnolias, rare conifers, and flowering shrubs threaded through natural gully and ridge terrain. Gravel paths wind through the property, making it accessible for most visitors while retaining a genuine sense of bush immersion.
The garden is particularly rewarding to visit during spring rhododendron flowering and in autumn when the deciduous trees turn. Because it is less well known than the neighbouring Cloudehill or the national park forests, Pirianda tends to feel uncrowded even on busy weekends. There are no commercial facilities on site, no cafe or shop, making it a genuine garden experience rather than a retail destination.
Entry is free and the garden is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, except on days of high wind or fire danger. A donations box is on site to support ongoing maintenance. Parking is available on Hacketts Road.
