Four nautical miles off Port Lincoln, a purpose-built pontoon floats above one of the largest southern bluefin tuna cages in South Australia. Visitors suit up and slip into the water alongside dozens of powerful, silver fish, with local sea life including snapper, trevally and salmon also circling below. The whole adventure, including the catamaran run out and back, takes around three hours.

The tour departs from Lincoln Cove aboard a high-speed catamaran. Wetsuit, flotation vest, snorkel and mask hire are all included in the ticket price, along with complimentary tea, coffee and sunscreen. No swimming experience is required, and guides are in the water with every group.

Southern bluefin tuna are extraordinary animals, capable of bursts approaching 70 km/h, and seeing them at close range in clear water is a striking experience. The pontoon is moored year-round and surrounded by open ocean, so sightings of other marine life are common.

Bookings are recommended well in advance during the summer holiday period and the annual Tunarama Festival in late January. Children are welcome and the experience suits a wide range of fitness levels.
