Twilight Beach sits at the western end of the Great Ocean Drive about seven kilometres from central Esperance, and consistently ranks among the finest beaches on the south coast of Western Australia. Its 4.2-kilometre sweep of fine white sand is sheltered by rounded granite headlands, and the water shades from pale aquamarine in the shallows to deep cobalt further out.
The beach faces southeast into Twilight Cove, which provides natural protection from the prevailing swells and makes it reliable for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Two large car parks flank the Surf Life Saving Club, and the beach is patrolled by volunteer lifeguards on summer weekends. Picnic tables and facilities make it a practical base for a full day outdoors.
Granite boulders anchor both headlands and spill into the water at the western end, creating sheltered snorkelling spots where curious fish gather around the rock edges. A sandbar at low tide connects the shore to a small offshore granite islet, which adds a dramatic focal point to photographs taken from the car park above.
Twilight Beach is accessible on foot or by bicycle via the coastal path that begins in town. It appears consistently in lists of Australia's top beaches, and its proximity to Esperance means it can be combined easily with the rest of the Great Ocean Drive loop in a single half-day outing.
