Tamworth Country Music Festival
Ten days of country music in the biggest country music festival in the southern hemisphere.
The largest country music festival in the southern hemisphere, taking over the regional city of Tamworth for ten days of concerts, buskers and the Golden Guitar Awards.
The Tamworth Country Music Festival runs for ten days every January and is the largest country music festival in the southern hemisphere. It has run continuously since 1973 and is centred on Tamworth, the self-proclaimed country music capital of Australia, around five hours' drive north of Sydney.
The festival includes over 700 scheduled performances plus countless street buskers and free events. The Golden Guitar Awards (Country Music Awards of Australia) are held during the festival and are the country's equivalent of the Grammy country category. Major Australian country artists from Slim Dusty to Keith Urban have all appeared here.
Beyond the music, Tamworth has the Big Golden Guitar, the Walk a Country Mile museum and the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame. Book accommodation at least three months in advance as the whole town fills up.
