Located a short walk from the CBD in the North Parklands, Adelaide Zoo is home to more than 2,500 animals across 250 species. The 8-hectare heritage-listed grounds, dating from 1883, make it one of the most beautiful zoological settings in the country and one of Adelaide's most loved family attractions.

The zoo is home to Sumatran tigers, orangutans, pygmy hippos, spectacled bears, snow leopards, giant pandas, and a remarkable walk-through aviary. The Nocturnal House and Reptile House give visitors rare access to animals that are seldom seen in daylight, while the African savanna exhibits and South American section add further variety.

The zoo operates a strong conservation and breeding programme for endangered species, contributing to international recovery efforts for animals including the regent honeyeater and the western swamp tortoise. Keeper talks run throughout the day across different exhibits.

The zoo is open every day of the year including Christmas Day. It is easily reached on foot from the city centre via the linear park along the River Torrens, or by bus.
