Created in the 1930s by businessman Alfred Nicholas, these heritage-listed gardens in Sherbrooke are considered one of the finest privately created landscapes in Victoria. A tranquil lake reflects towering rhododendrons and mature azaleas, with stone steps, a boathouse, and winding paths making it a favourite for photographers and garden lovers in autumn and spring. Entry is free.

The gardens slope down through a series of terraced beds and woodland plantings to a still central lake, where reflections of mature deciduous trees and flowering shrubs create some of the most-photographed scenes in the Dandenong Ranges. The stone boathouse and rustic bridge add a romantic quality that draws couples and photographers especially during peak flowering in October and November, and again during the golden autumn colour season.

Managed by Parks Victoria as part of the greater Dandenong Ranges garden network, the site is maintained to a high standard and offers free access seven days a week during daylight hours. Facilities include visitor parking across the road from the main entrance and accessible paths through parts of the garden.

The gardens close on days of Extreme Fire Danger Rating or severe weather. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early on busy autumn and spring weekends, as parking can be limited. The surrounding Sherbrooke Forest provides additional walking opportunities nearby.
