Cofield Wines is a five-star-rated boutique family winery in Wahgunyah, five minutes from Rutherglen, where third-generation winemaker Damien Cofield has earned a reputation for exceptional Method Traditionelle sparkling wines, including a celebrated Sparkling Shiraz Durif. The Cofield family have been working Rutherglen's soils for over a century, though the current winery was established in 1985, drawing on grapes from their own estate as well as the King Valley, Alpine Valleys, and Beechworth. The property is as relaxed as a winery visit gets, with lawn chairs, metalwork sculptures, and giant games welcoming families and dogs alike.
The cellar door delivers complimentary tastings of four wines, with premium guided flights available from $10 to $40 - up to $20 of which is redeemable against purchases over $50. Quartz Cuisine, the onsite restaurant, opens Wednesday to Sunday from 9 am, serving coffee, breakfast treats, and a full lunch menu from 11 am. Grazing platters can be pre-ordered for lawn picnics, and the property sits conveniently close to the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail for cycling visitors.
Cofield Wines received five stars in the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion, recognising its quality across a diverse range that stretches from crisp whites through robust reds to complex fortifieds. The cellar door is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, making it one of the earliest-opening cellar doors in the Rutherglen district.
