The Carousel at Eastern Beach
Vintage rides on the bay
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Housed in a beautiful heritage pavilion on the Geelong Waterfront, the Carousel at Eastern Beach is one of Australia's best-preserved vintage merry-go-rounds. Built in 1892, the hand-carved wooden horses have delighted generations of visitors, and the ride remains one of the most charming and affordable attractions in regional Victoria. Entry to the pavilion itself is free, making it a welcoming stop for all ages.
The Carousel pavilion sits right on the waterfront at Eastern Beach, steps from the sea baths and the Baywalk Bollards trail. The ride features lovingly maintained hand-carved horses and is operated by the City of Greater Geelong. Riders of all ages are welcome.
Inside the pavilion you will find souvenirs, refreshments, and ice cream, as well as books about the famous Baywalk Bollards available for purchase. The pavilion is a popular meeting spot on the waterfront, and its heritage architecture makes it a photogenic landmark in its own right.
The Carousel runs daily year-round, with the last ride departing ten minutes before closing. Hours may vary on days when private functions are held, so it is worth checking ahead during school holidays and long weekends.
