Geelong Waterfront and Baywalk Bollards

Stretching along Corio Bay from Rippleside Park to Limeburners Point, the Geelong Waterfront is the beating heart of the city. Its defining feature is a trail of 104 hand-painted timber sculptures, the Baywalk Bollards, created by local artist Jan Mitchell from the timbers of a demolished city pier. Together the waterfront promenade and its quirky cast of historical characters make for an unmissable two-hour stroll.
The Baywalk Bollards were commissioned by the City of Greater Geelong in the mid-1990s and transform recycled pier timbers into vivid portraits of the people and events that shaped the city. You will encounter a Koori family, English explorer Matthew Flinders, 1930s bathing beauties, and scores of other local identities as you walk the foreshore track.
Beyond the bollards, the waterfront precinct offers grassed parkland, swimming enclosures, cafes and restaurants, the historic Eastern Beach sea baths, and easy access to the Carousel pavilion. A brochure mapping all the bollard sites is available from the waterfront information kiosk.
The promenade is fully accessible and free to enjoy at any time. Cyclists and walkers share the well-maintained path, and the route connects to the broader Bellarine Rail Trail for those wanting a longer adventure.
