Hangover Bay
Sheltered beach, marine park waters
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Hangover Bay is a wide, sheltered cove tucked inside Nambung National Park, roughly 18 minutes west of the Pinnacles Desert. The bay sits within the Jurien Bay Marine Park and offers calm, clear water well suited to swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, and surfing. Bottlenose dolphins and sea lions occasionally pass through, and the surrounding coastal scrub is home to bobtails, goannas, and carpet pythons.
The beach faces west into the Indian Ocean and is protected enough for families with children to swim comfortably in most conditions, though afternoon sea breezes can build during summer. The snorkelling close to the rocky outcrops at either end of the bay reveals colourful reef fish and invertebrates typical of the marine park.
Facilities include gas barbecues, picnic tables, a shade shelter, and accessible toilets. A boat ramp allows small watercraft to launch directly onto the bay. The large car park accommodates caravans and motorhomes, making it a popular lunchtime or overnight stop for travellers on the Indian Ocean Drive.
Standard Nambung National Park entry applies. No pets are permitted. The site is managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
