Hunter Valley Gardens
Gardens, wonder and seasons
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Spread across eight hectares of manicured grounds at the heart of Pokolbin, Hunter Valley Gardens is one of Australia's most celebrated display gardens. Twelve distinct themed gardens, from the romantic Rose Garden to the enchanting Chinese Garden, sit alongside a shopping village, dining options and a schedule of signature seasonal events that brings visitors back year-round.
Hunter Valley Gardens was built by Bill and Imelda Roche over four years with a dedicated team of more than 40 landscape architects, gardeners and engineers. The result is a sprawling park of international calibre, with each themed garden offering a different mood and atmosphere. Whether you wander through the formal Italian Garden or let children loose on the rides and miniature railway, there is something to hold every member of the family.
The gardens host signature annual events that draw enormous crowds, including the Christmas Lights Spectacular (November to January) and Snow Time in the Garden (winter school holidays). Outside event periods the gardens are a quieter retreat, with seasonal blooms, shaded walks and resident ducks on the lake. The shopping village and on-site restaurants mean a full day here is easily filled.
