The Lobster Shack
Rock lobster straight from the sea
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
The Lobster Shack on the Cervantes waterfront is a working rock lobster processing facility that opens its doors to visitors for guided factory tours and fresh seafood dining. You can watch live Western Rock Lobsters sorted, packed, and prepared for export while a knowledgeable guide explains the history of the local crayfishing industry and the seasonal rhythms of the Coral Coast fleet.
Factory tours run for approximately 30 minutes and include a video presentation about how lobsters are caught at sea, an overhead walkthrough of the live holding and packing areas, and a session in the touch pool room where visitors can photograph themselves holding a lobster. Tour times vary by season and fleet activity, so it is worth calling ahead to confirm availability.
The licensed restaurant and shop are open daily, with lunch served from 11 am to 3 pm and the shop open from 9 am to 5 pm. The menu centres on freshly cooked lobster, local fish, prawns, and abalone, all enjoyed on a beachside deck overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The Lobster Shack is closed on Christmas Day. The retail shop sells fresh, frozen, and packaged seafood as well as locally produced gifts, and the business also offers fishing charters and lobster-catching tours for more hands-on experiences.
