Step aboard the Paddle Vessel Rothbury, built in 1881, for a two-hour cruise along the Murray River from Mildura Wharf. The journey passes through Lock 11, where the vessel is raised or lowered roughly 3.5 metres with no pumps involved, pure hydraulic engineering from the 1920s. It is one of the most distinctive ways to experience the river that shaped inland Australia.

The PV Rothbury is the elder statesman of Mildura's river fleet, originally launched in 1881 and now one of the oldest working paddle vessels in the country. Morning and afternoon departures run most days, with the lock passage remaining the centrepiece of every cruise. When passenger numbers exceed the Rothbury's capacity, a companion vessel supplements operations.

The two-hour lock cruise departs from the Mildura Wharf on Hugh King Drive, in the heart of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct. An evening dinner cruise is also available for those who want to combine the river experience with a meal. Bookings are essential and can be made by phone.

Water levels and weir maintenance can occasionally affect departure points, so it is wise to confirm the current arrangements with the operator before travelling.
