A Ramsar-listed wetland of interconnected freshwater lakes separated from the ocean by a narrow sand barrier. Myall Lakes National Park stretches for 40 kilometres along the coast north of Hawks Nest and protects one of the most important waterbird habitats in New South Wales.

Myall Lakes National Park covers a chain of shallow freshwater lakes on Worimi country between Hawks Nest and Seal Rocks on the Mid North Coast. The lakes - Upper Myall, Myall, Boolambayte and Bombah Broadwater - are connected by narrow channels and separated from the Pacific Ocean by a strip of sand dunes and paperbark forest.

The lakes were listed as a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 1999 because of the sheer number and diversity of waterbirds they support. Black swans, pelicans, sea eagles, ospreys and dozens of migratory species feed and breed here. The Bombah Broadwater is the largest single body of water and is popular for kayaking, sailing and canoeing.

The ocean side of the park is equally impressive. Dark Point Beach and Mungo Beach are long, empty stretches of sand backed by coastal forest, with few visitors even in peak summer. The Mungo Brush rainforest walk is a gentle loop through littoral rainforest behind the beach dunes, featuring some of the tallest coastal blackbutt trees in the state.

Camping is the best way to experience the park. Mungo Brush campground is the most accessible, with hot showers and a boat ramp. The Bombah Point ferry, a cable-operated barge crossing the Broadwater, is the only vehicular connection between the northern and southern sections of the park and adds a memorable touch to any visit.
