National Wine Centre of Australia
All of Australian wine, here
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Housed in a striking timber and glass building at the edge of the Adelaide Botanic Garden, the National Wine Centre of Australia is the country's foremost destination for exploring Australian wine. The centre combines interactive exhibitions, guided tastings, a well-stocked cellar door, a restaurant, and regular events into a single venue that suits everyone from curious beginners to serious collectors.
The Wine Discovery Journey is an immersive self-guided experience that traces the story of Australian winemaking from soil to glass. Displays cover the geography of Australia's wine regions, the science of viticulture and winemaking, and the people behind the industry. Tasting sessions with in-house sommeliers can be added to deepen the experience, with options ranging from quick pours at the Wined Bar to structured comparative tastings.
Monthly events bring the experience to life throughout the year. Free Meet the Maker sessions introduce visitors to winemakers from across the country, while a monthly tasting evening showcases new and emerging producers. The cellar door stocks a broad range of Australian wines available for tasting and purchase.
The centre shares its eastern parklands setting with the botanic garden and Adelaide Zoo, making it an easy addition to a day exploring that end of the city. The building itself, designed by Cox Architecture, won national awards on completion and is worth seeing as an architectural object in its own right.
