Several afternoons each week at 3:30pm, a marine wildlife rescue group gathers at Pelican Plaza on the foreshore of The Entrance for a free, family-friendly wildlife session. Visitors watch Australian pelicans soar in from Tuggerah Lakes and gather on the waterfront while trained wildlife carers share conservation stories about these remarkable birds.
What was once a straightforward pelican feeding has evolved into an eco-friendly educational experience, with the focus shifting firmly to bird welfare and public awareness. Carers talk through pelican biology, migration habits and the threats the birds face, making it as informative as it is entertaining. The event runs for around 15 minutes and suits all ages, from toddlers to grandparents.
The Entrance township provides a pleasant backdrop, with the Tuggerah Lakes foreshore, a patrolled surf beach and a range of cafes all within easy walking distance of Pelican Plaza. The event also runs daily during all NSW school holidays, making it a reliable activity for visiting families. No bookings are required, and there is no entry charge.
