Wine, craft beer and Slate Restaurant
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Established in 1984 by brothers Neil and Andrew Pike on Polish Hill Road in Sevenhill, Pikes Wines has grown from a small family operation into one of the Clare Valley's most complete visitor destinations. The property combines an award-winning cellar door with the Slate Restaurant and a craft brewery, making it a natural anchor for a full day in the valley.
Pikes is particularly celebrated for its Polish Hill River Rieslings, drawn from the distinctive schist and clay soils of the sub-region, as well as its Eastside Shiraz and single-vineyard whites. The complimentary seated tasting covers five wines across a 40-minute session, with knowledgeable staff on hand to walk visitors through the vineyard story behind each bottle. Bookings are recommended.
The Slate Restaurant uses produce from the surrounding Clare Valley region to build a menu that shifts with the seasons. Its stone walls and open kitchen give it an informal elegance that suits both a long lunch and a quick meal between cellar doors. The on-site brewery adds a craft beer dimension rare among Clare Valley wineries.
The property also houses a gallery space displaying works by local and regional artists, adding a cultural layer to the tasting-room visit. The combination of wine, food, art, and beer means Pikes works well for mixed groups with varying interests.
