TarraWarra Museum of Art
Contemporary art in wine country
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
TarraWarra Museum of Art is one of Australia's leading regional art galleries, occupying a striking curved sandstone building set against the rolling vines of TarraWarra Estate. Founded by philanthropists Eva and Marc Besen in 2003, the museum presents a prestigious collection of twentieth and twenty-first century Australian art alongside ambitious temporary exhibitions from major national and international artists.
The permanent collection includes significant works by Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, Fred Williams and Brett Whiteley, making a visit here genuinely rewarding for anyone interested in the arc of Australian modernism. Temporary exhibitions change regularly and have attracted critical attention well beyond the region. The gallery building itself is worth the visit on architectural grounds alone, with its curved roof echoing the contours of the surrounding vineyard.
Admission is modest by city gallery standards, and children under 12 enter free. The on-site restaurant, with views across the vines, is a popular lunch destination. The museum is closed Mondays and on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
