Deep Creek National Park

The largest remaining natural vegetation area on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Deep Creek National Park stretches from inland mallee scrub to dramatic coastal cliffs above Backstairs Passage. Fifteen walking trails range from a 30-minute loop to multi-day Heysen Trail sections, while western grey kangaroos, echidnas, and over 100 bird species inhabit the park year-round.
The park sits 108 kilometres south of Adelaide and can be entered via Main South Road or Range Road from Victor Harbor, with all internal roads unsealed. The Goondooloo Ridge Walk is among the most popular routes, delivering cliff-top views across Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island. The Boat Harbour Circuit descends through steep coastal scrub to a wild pebble beach below the cliffs.
Between May and October, southern right whales and humpbacks migrate through Backstairs Passage and are regularly seen from the coastal lookouts without optical aids. The diversity of habitats supports an impressive range of honeyeaters, raptors, and migratory shorebirds.
Five campgrounds are spread through the park, from the well-serviced Stringybark site to the walk-in Eagle Waterhole campground on the Heysen Trail. Vehicle entry fees apply and must be paid before arrival.
