Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and Skywalk
Soaring above ancient World Heritage rainforest
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Perched on the edge of the Dorrigo escarpment, the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is the main visitor hub for Dorrigo National Park, a section of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Its signature feature is the Skywalk - a 70-metre boardwalk that floats 21 metres above the rainforest canopy, delivering wide-angle views across the Bellinger Valley to the Pacific Ocean.
The Rainforest Centre itself houses heritage displays on the ecology and Gumbaynggirr cultural significance of the park, plus a gift shop stocked with locally made products and park information for planning walks. The dominant peak in the panorama from the Skywalk is the double summit of McGraths Hump, known locally as 'old man sleeping', and on clear days the view reaches all the way to the coast. Birdwatchers regularly spot regent bowerbirds, topknot pigeons and grey goshawks from the walkway.
A network of walking tracks fans out from the centre, including the gentle Satinbird Stroll, the Lyrebird Link suitable for birdwatching at dawn, and the Wonga Walk which passes 600-year-old strangler figs and subtropical rainforest. The nearby Crystal Shower Falls walk leads visitors behind a curtain waterfall, while the longer Casuarina Falls Circuit rewards those with more time. Access to all trails and the Skywalk is step-free from the car park via paved paths.
