Located at Tea Tree, a short drive from Richmond, Hobart Zoo and Aquarium, formerly known as ZooDoo Wildlife Park, is a privately owned, Zoo Aquarium Association-accredited wildlife park that reopened under new ownership in 2024 and rebranded in 2025 following the addition of Tasmania's largest aquarium. The park sits on 90 hectares and is home to native Australian wildlife as well as exotic species including meerkats, servals, and cotton-top tamarins. It is open seven days a week.
The aquarium complex is a standout addition, featuring an interactive Touch Pool open daily from 11:30am to 1:00pm, included with general entry. The zoo retains its popular wildlife encounters, where visitors can pat koalas, hand-feed budgerigars in a walk-in aviary, and book close-up experiences with lions, snakes, and meerkats. Five outdoor playgrounds plus a fully heated indoor playground (suitable for toddlers through to 14-year-olds) make this one of the most family-focused attractions in southern Tasmania.
The surrounding 300 acres behind the park have been converted into a protected area for threatened native vegetation, giving the precinct genuine conservation credentials. School holiday programs, birthday party packages, and animal encounter add-ons allow visitors to tailor their visit. The zoo is roughly 10 minutes' drive from Richmond township and 30 minutes from Hobart CBD, making it a natural addition to a Coal River Valley day trip.
