Mackay Marina Village
Gateway to the Whitsundays
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Positioned on Mackay Harbour about five kilometres from the city centre, Mackay Marina Village is a southern gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. With more than 300 berths, a full-service shipyard, dining, accommodation, and boutique shops set along a working waterfront, the marina is both a functional port and a relaxed destination in its own right.
The marina precinct occupies a stretch of Mulherin Drive overlooking Mackay Harbour and is flanked by Harbour Beach, a patrolled sandy beach with a foreshore reserve, picnic tables, and barbecues. The beach is one of the few safe swimming spots close to the city, and the calm harbour waters make it a popular spot for an early morning walk or a sunset drink at one of the waterfront restaurants.
Mackay Marina holds Fish-Friendly certification and Clean Marina status, reflecting its commitment to protecting the reef waters that lie just offshore. It also operates as an official port of entry into Australia, with customs and biosecurity facilities on site for international yacht arrivals.
A range of island day tours, fishing charters, and dive trips depart from the marina precinct, offering easy access to the South Cumberland Islands and the outer reef.
