Meelup Beach sits within Meelup Regional Park on the shores of Geographe Bay, about 10 kilometres west of Dunsborough on the Cape Naturaliste peninsula. Its name means place of the moon rising in Wadandi language. Protected from ocean swells by the bay, it offers shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water lapping white sand, making it one of the safest and most beautiful swimming beaches on the entire south-west coast of Western Australia.

The beach is fringed by native eucalyptus and banksia, which provide shade over grassed picnic areas. Facilities include gas barbecues, picnic tables, toilets, showers, a water fountain, and a large car park with an accessible footpath and sand matting leading to the waterfront. The beach is patrolled by surf lifesavers on weekends and public holidays from November to January.

Snorkelling around the rocky headlands to each side of the main sandy bay rewards visitors with glimpses of reef fish and colourful invertebrates. The broader Meelup Regional Park contains 11.5 kilometres of coastline connecting Dunsborough to Bunker Bay, with walking trails winding through coastal heath and banksia woodland. In winter and spring, southern right and humpback whales are regularly spotted from the headland.

Meelup is consistently rated among the top beaches in Western Australia and draws visitors from Perth making the three-hour drive south. There is no entry fee, and the park has no camping facilities, which helps preserve its tranquil character.
