Millstream Chichester National Park

Visitors arriving via the sealed Roebourne-Wittenoom Road can stop first at Python Pool in the Chichester Range - a stunning swimming hole with dramatic ochre cliffs rising overhead. Continuing south, the landscape flattens into the Millstream floodplain where paperbark-lined pools reflect the open sky. The restored Millstream Homestead Visitor Centre, open daily between 8am and 4pm, houses exhibits about Yindjibarndi culture, the colonial pastoral era, and the park's extraordinary biodiversity - 30 threatened species find refuge here.

The park rewards those who stay overnight: two designated campgrounds, Stargazers and Miliyanha, offer gas barbecues, bush toilets, and some of the darkest skies in Western Australia. Walking options range from the easy 200-metre stroll to Deep Reach Pool to the challenging 45-minute summit of Mount Herbert. The best time to visit is April through August, when daytime temperatures are manageable and wildflowers brighten the spinifex slopes. Standard vehicle entry fees apply - a day pass costs $17 for a vehicle with up to 12 passengers.
