Morris of Rutherglen
Wine and whisky since 1859
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Morris of Rutherglen is Australia's most awarded wine and whisky brand, tracing its origins to 1859 when George Francis Morris planted his first vines near the town. The Mia Mia Vineyard site, established by his son in 1897, is where the winery and distillery stand today, centred on an original 1930s copper still that was installed at Morris in 1941. A major 2024 refurbishment delivered a state-of-the-art tasting bar, landscaped gardens, and a journey that weaves through the ancient barrel-house to the beating heart of the whisky operation.
The cellar door experience is singular in that it places fortified wine and Australian single malt whisky side by side, inviting visitors to trace the flavour connection between the two - both shaped by the same barrels, the same climate, and six generations of craft. The barrel-house, with its dim light and the heady scent of evaporating spirit, is one of the most atmospheric spaces in the Australian wine world. Wheelchair access extends from the car park throughout the cellar door space, and leashed dogs are welcome in outdoor areas.
The venue is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm and is located down a vineyard-flanked driveway just off Mia Mia Road, a short drive from Rutherglen's main street. No tasting fee is listed on the official site; current pricing is best confirmed directly. Cellar door tours and table bookings can be arranged through the Morris website.
