Ngilgi Cave

Ngilgi Cave is a spectacular karst limestone cave set in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park near Yallingup, about 45 minutes north of Margaret River. Known to the Wadandi people as the home of the spirit Ngilgi, it was first recorded by European settlers in 1899 and has been open to visitors ever since. The cave features an extraordinary array of stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, and shawls formed over millions of years.
The self-guided tour takes visitors through a series of chambers adorned with delicate formations. Highlights include the Wishing Well, a natural pool of perfectly still water, and the upper Lace Chamber, which is draped in unusually fine helictites. The Ancient Lands Experience above ground connects visitors to Wadandi knowledge and the natural landscape surrounding the cave entrance.
The Capes Foundation manages the site with a strong emphasis on conservation and cultural respect. The path through the cave involves stairs and low clearances in places, and the interior temperature remains a cool 17 degrees Celsius year round, so a light layer is recommended.
Yallingup itself is one of the most scenic villages on the Cape-to-Cape coast, known for surf breaks and cellar doors a short drive in either direction.
