Old Hobart Town Model Village

The village took more than three years to craft and covers an area roughly the size of two tennis courts. Walking paths wind past faithfully reproduced landmarks including the original Hobart wharf, Hunter Island, the Hobart Rivulet, and the central town precinct. Comparative photographs of the modern city beside each scene help visitors appreciate just how dramatically the colonial capital has transformed over two centuries.

Multilingual interpretive materials are available in Chinese, Japanese, French, and German. The site is fully wheelchair accessible with accessible amenities, and a gift shop is located on-site. Children can participate in an interactive discovery game throughout the village. Because it is indoors and climate-controlled, Old Hobart Town makes an excellent wet-weather option, and its proximity to the bridge and gaol means it fits naturally into a morning of Richmond sightseeing.
