Opened in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint, The Perth Mint is Australia's oldest operating mint and one of the world's leading precious metals enterprises. Visitors can watch a live gold pour demonstration, marvel at one of the world's largest gold coins, and browse an extraordinary collection of rare bullion and numismatic pieces in the heritage-listed building on Hay Street.

The 90-minute Gold Tour departs hourly from 9:30am and takes guests through the mint's working areas, including the melting room where molten gold is poured into bars before your eyes. The tour explains the journey from raw gold ore to finished bullion coin, drawing on the mint's deep connection to Western Australia's goldfields history.

The showpiece of the visitor experience is the Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin, which holds a Guinness World Record as the world's largest gold coin. Weighing 1,000 kilograms and cast from 99.99 per cent pure gold, it is on permanent display in the foyer.

The on-site shop stocks a wide range of investment and collector coins, jewellery, gold nuggets and unique gifts. Entry to the shop and grounds is free; only the guided Gold Tour carries an admission charge.
