Sea Acres Rainforest Centre

The boardwalk rises above the rainforest floor, keeping visitors clear of the sensitive root systems while delivering close-up views of mosses, orchids and the reptiles that bask on the warm timber rails. Knowledgeable guides lead free walks at regular intervals, pointing out wildlife and explaining the ecology of this subtropical coastal rainforest, which is listed within Sea Acres National Park.

Birds are abundant throughout the year, with wompoo fruit-doves, channel-billed cuckoos and noisy pitta among the species recorded here. The forest merges with paperbark wetlands at its edges, adding to the habitat diversity and making Sea Acres one of the most rewarding short nature walks on the New South Wales coast.

The adjacent cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and overlooks the treetops. Sea Acres is just a short drive from Port Macquarie town centre, and the flat boardwalk surface suits prams and most wheelchairs.
