Seal Bay Conservation Park protects one of Australia's largest colonies of Australian sea lions along Kangaroo Island's rugged south coast. Guided tours lead visitors down to the beach alongside these charismatic animals in their natural habitat, while a self-guided boardwalk weaves through coastal dunes to multiple viewing platforms overlooking the colony below.

The Australian sea lion is one of the rarest sea lion species on Earth, and Seal Bay is the most accessible place in the country to observe them at close range. Experienced naturalist guides from the National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia lead daily beach tours, explaining the colony's breeding cycles, social structure, and conservation history across a 45-minute walk among resting, playing, and nursing animals.

For those who prefer to set their own pace, the 900-metre return boardwalk delivers elevated views over the beach without entering the colony zone. Interpretive signage along the route covers sea lion biology, diet, and the threats these animals face from entanglement and disease. The park is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, with the last entry at 4pm.

Seal Bay Road is sealed and easy to navigate from Kingscote, roughly 45 minutes away. Ample free parking sits at the visitor centre, which sells tickets, cold drinks, and park merchandise. Booking ahead online is recommended during school holidays and the summer peak season.
