Buley Rockhole
Natural spa pools in the forest
schedule 1 min read / Updated Jun 2026
Buley Rockhole is a series of small, rapid-flowing streams that spill through a succession of shallow and deep rock pools carved into the sandstone of Litchfield National Park. Less dramatic than the nearby waterfalls but uniquely inviting, it offers visitors a place to lie back in naturally flowing water and let the current do its work, a genuine open-air spa set among woodland and monsoon forest.
The rockhole sits on the road to Florence Falls and shares the same access route. Unlike Florence Falls and Wangi Falls, Buley has no wheelchair-accessible path to the water, so visitors must walk over natural rock beds. This does not deter the crowds; it is an extremely popular spot, particularly in the morning before heat peaks. Arriving early is strongly recommended.
The Shady Creek and Florence Creek walk links Buley Rockhole directly to Florence Falls, covering 3.2 kilometres of easy to moderate terrain through monsoon forest and open woodland. The walk can be started from the upstream picnic area at either end. Parking at Buley fills quickly, and overflow parking is shared with Florence Falls.
No camping is available at Buley Rockhole itself. Public toilets are on site. An NT Parks Visitor Pass is required. The pools flow year-round, though water volume is highest in the early dry season following the rains.
