Mount Hotham Alpine Resort sits at 1,750 metres in the Victorian Alps, 31 kilometres south of Bright via the Great Alpine Road, making it the highest year-round accessible alpine village in Australia. In winter it offers ski terrain across more than 70 trails with a strong reputation for advanced and challenging runs. In summer the mountain opens for bushwalking, cycling, and wildflower viewing, with vehicle entry free outside the snow season.
The resort village is compact and built directly on the mountain ridge, giving it a distinctive character among Australian ski resorts. Mary's Slide is one of Australia's most demanding ski runs, and the resort hosts Australia's only biathlon range. Winter snowfall averages around 300 centimetres annually, with the snow season typically running from mid-June through to mid-September.
Summer brings an entirely different appeal. The Great Alpine Road passes directly through the resort, and walks to nearby Mount Feathertop, known as the Queen of the Alps, rank among the most rewarding alpine hikes in Victoria. The Razorback Ridge trail from Hotham to Feathertop is a full-day route through open high plains with panoramic views. Wildflowers bloom prolifically between December and February.
Dinner Plain, a heritage village 11 kilometres east of Hotham, provides additional accommodation and dining options year-round and is a popular base for visitors to both resorts. Winter resort entry permits must be purchased online before arrival.
