Ntaria Campground, run by the Hermannsburg community at Tjalkabota Road in Ntaria (Hermannsburg), provides the most convenient overnight base for visitors heading to Finke Gorge National Park and Palm Valley, located 125 km west of Alice Springs. The campground offers powered and unpowered sites as well as self-contained cabins, and is open seven days a week. An adjacent supermarket and fuel station make it a practical last stop before the 4WD track into the national park.
Sitting at the entrance to Hermannsburg, Ntaria Campground is set within walking distance of the site of the historic Lutheran mission precinct and close to the Albert Namatjira memorial. The campground facilities include a communal kitchen, clean bathrooms, and showers, with powered sites, unpowered sites, and air-conditioned one-bedroom self-contained cabins each with a full kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and balcony. The on-site supermarket stocks groceries and essential supplies, and the fuel station is the last reliable refuelling opportunity before the Mereenie Loop or Finke Gorge tracks.
The campground is particularly valued as a staging point for multi-day Finke Gorge itineraries, travellers can stock up on water and provisions, verify road conditions via the NT Parks hotline, and set off into the national park the following morning. The surrounding area offers short self-guided walks to the Albert Namatjira memorial and views toward the rugged backdrop of the Krichauff Range. No permit is required to visit Hermannsburg township.
