Whiteman Park is a 4,000-hectare bushland reserve on the northern edge of the Swan Valley, offering a remarkable mix of heritage transport rides, woodland walking trails, picnic grounds, and three specialised museums. Free to enter, the park is one of Perth's most beloved recreational and nature spaces, drawing families, walkers, and history enthusiasts year-round.
Visitors can ride vintage buses, heritage trams, and classic trains along restored routes through the bush, or explore the Revolutions transport museum. The Woodland Reserve is a predator-free 500-hectare sanctuary of rehabilitated bushland where native birds and wildlife can be spotted on foot or by bicycle along 14 kilometres of quiet trails.
The park also hosts Caversham Wildlife Park, a craft village, playgrounds, a splash pool, dog-friendly areas, and tennis courts. Entry to the parklands and most of the outdoor facilities is free, with individual attractions such as the tram rides and museums charging separate fees. It is a practical base for a full day in the Swan Valley area.
